Trent Ernst, who writes for the DWF blog had some very kind things to say about my wedding day portrait photography over on their blog. For those not familiar with the Digital Wedding Forum, it is the largest resource for wedding and portrait photographers anywhere, as far as I can find—both online and in comparison with any other learning source. This is the fourth time I’ve popped up on the DWF blog and it’s a true honour each time.
We have been accepted as members of the Best of Wedding Photography association.
The Best of Wedding Photography board includes world-renown photographers David Beckstead, Ben Chrisman, Matt Adcock & Sol Tamargo (Del Sol Photography), Glen Johnson, Anna Kuperberg, Crash Taylor, and David Ziser.
From the Best of Wedding Photography site:
A few times each year, our editorial staff submits a list of outstanding photographers to the BOWP Review Board, who then vote separately on whom to invite . . . We are the premier invitation-only association for the world’s top wedding photographers. Best of Wedding Photography employs a unique system of peer-review to ensure that membership standards remain uncommonly high. We look for photographers who are leaders in the field – both in terms of the quality and style of imagery they produce and their level of success and recognition by brides, fellow photographers, and others in the wedding industry.
Best of Wedding Photography has capped their membership at only 350 of the best photographers in the world, so Jessica and I are really happy to have been accepted.
I am very pleased to tell you that the ISPWP has featured me in a member’s spotlight interview!
The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers is a photography group that I am definitely proud and honoured to be a member of. From their website:
The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP) is a rarity among wedding photography organizations. Photographers cannot simply buy an ISPWP membership, they have to earn it . . . Our requirements are experience, talent, and professionalism. To be accepted, a photographer must have shot at least 50 weddings, submit their portfolio for review, agree to operate under the ISPWP Code of Conduct, and have an ISPWP Sponsor or four references. And THEN they have to be voted in by current members.
It’s a really cool organisation and I admire the stance that Joe Milton, the founder, has taken in being true to the high standards he started out with and not compromising. And now they’ve been kind enough to feature me as a guest interviewee.
You can read about my thoughts on my style and some of my favourite tips for brides who are planning their weddings HERE.
We are excited to be featured on the Wedding Obsession blog! We had one of our Banff weddings feature there earlier this year, which was very cool, and this time we have a very small mix of some our images from a handful of weddings around Canada—Kelowna, Toronto, Banff, Taber, and Crows Nest Pass.
If you are planning your wedding, make sure to take a look around the Wedding Obsession blog! There are so many awesome ideas for couples to draw from, whether you’re after a cool retro vibe or something modern and different.
Thanks for having us on your blog again, Melissa!
We have recently had two shoots featured on the wedding inspiration blog, Beyond Beyond.
If you are a regular blog reader here you may remember our previous feature on Beyond Beyond and it’s always an honour to have our photography displayed with them.
This time round we have a Calgary engagement session and a Banff bridal portrait session.
Beyond Beyond describes their site as “wedding inspiration for daring bridesters, hipsters, and individuals who dare to be different” and they definitely fit that description! There are so many wedding-inspiration blogs and web sites out there and so many just chase after whatever the current trend happens to be, but Beyond Beyond really does have a very cool, eclectic mix of tasty tidbits and funky photos that stands out from the crowd. Click on the links above to check them out.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these guys a couple of times now for their charity calendar. The first time was on St. Patrick’s Day and we did a lot of candid photos as they tuned up. (Does tuning bagpipes make a difference?
) Then we did another photo session with a vintage fire engine on a stormy afternoon. They are a real bunch of characters and were fun to work with.
They will be selling a calendar at some point to raise money and it’s a worthy thing to support. Contact the Lethbridge fire station for more info.

Now that’s a long blog title!
I got together with Lethbridge boutique bridal store Once Upon A Bride and wedding venue The Norland for a bridal fashion shoot. Some of the staff of Once Upon A Bride were involved in the shoot and they were so awesome to work with—and that’s just in helping me during the photos, so the customer service in their store must be incredible! And the Norland is always a great place to shoot at. It is the nicest outdoor venue in Lethbridge and they are always friendly there as well.
I won’t be putting the images on my wedding site in my portfolio, because although they look like getting ready photos from a wedding, they were taken in a more controlled environment, but I wanted to share some of my favourites here on my blog.

Rosie from The Photography Parlour recently picked my brain about the hows and whys I do this photography thing. The Photography Parlour is a great site with a lot of cool content and interesting articles and interviews and I’m honoured to be featured there.
HERE is a link to my interview.
Wow, it’s been ages since I posted here! I have actually been very busy, but all my most recent news have been projects I have had to keep under wraps up until a certain point. Well, one of those things can be revealed now! Eight of my images have been published in a fantastic book aimed at wedding photographers called Wedding Photography: A Guide To Posing. Not only that, but I’m excited to say that an image of mine is on the cover!
This UK publication is an excellent resource for photographers of all levels who want to improve their posing ability, with pages and pages of great photos and tips. As far as I know there is nothing else like it available—certainly nothing with anywhere near this level of information on modern posing. So I really don’t encourage other photographers to buy this book, because then you’ll learn all of our secrets. Don’t buy this book!
It is also aimed at brides-to-be who would like to learn more about posing so that they can be inspired and comfortable for their own wedding day.
Below is my cover photo for Wedding Photography: A Guide To Posing.
